Tego Calderon Joins Atlantic Records!

Atlantic Records has announced the signing of Latin rap superstar Tego Calderón via a long-term, worldwide deal with Calderón's own Jiggiri Records label. Heralded as the king of the Puerto Rican-bred music known as reggaetón, Calderón is the first artist in this rapidly burgeoning genre to ink a global pact with a major label.

Philly schools to require African history class

City high school students will be required to take a class in African and African American history to graduate, a move that education experts believe is unique in the nation.

The requirement in the 185,000-student district, which is about two-thirds black, begins with September's freshman class, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported Thursday.

¿Y tu agüela, aonde ejtá? -  ¿Y tu abuela donde esta?

This spoken word poem by Fortunato Vizcarrondo is a common refrain to those who claim "pure hispano" or pure Spanish blood.  It's as if to say, "And your grandmother, where is she?"  This is akin to the American "negro in the woodpile" referring to family genes and the common appearance of Blacksin "white" lineages.
